Charles quit school when he was in the sixth grade in order to begin working. He worked odd jobs, including a job with the Koppern Company. He was a draftsman and worked for the Army Corps of Engineer during World War 2. He was a very big masculinist and loved his three sons, Thomas, John, and Richard very much.
