McKinney – Ottis Norman McKinney, age 83, of Starke, Florida passed away April 14, 2013 at the Malcolm Randall VA Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida. He was born on November 9, 1929 in Graham, FL to the late John A.J. McKinney and Bonnie Lee Youngblood. Ottis proudly served his country in the Korean War as a member of the United States Army and retired after 20 years of dedicated service. Known as the "Mayor of Polk Street," Ottis was very active in the community. He would often times, gather food and newspapers and would deliver them to people in need. He also was a member of the American Legion Post 56 and VFW Post 1016 in Starke.
Ottis is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Margaret McKinney of Starke, FL; his children, Joan Kuhn of Orange Park, FL, Wayne Addison, Sr. of Starke, FL, Leon Addison of Orlando, FL, Randy Addison of Columbus, GA, Georgia Hoffer of Gulfport, MS, and Mary Breese of Lyons, KS; his brother, James McKinney; his sisters, Rosalie Thornton and Gloria Maddox; 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 11:00 am at Archie Tanner Funeral Services with his Grandson Johnny Stephens officiating. Interment will follow at Crosby Lake Cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service. Military honors will be rendered at the graveside with a reception to follow at the American Legion Post 56 in Starke, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in Ottis' name to the American Legion Post 56 at 709 W. Edwards Road, Starke, FL 32091. Arrangements are under the care and direction of ARCHIE TANNER FUNERAL SERVICES, Starke, FL. 904-964-5757.
