Marriage record revealed John D. Branch (18) and Elizabeth Bowman (21) married on September 5, 1871 in Patrick County, Virginia. His parents were O. and P. Branch. Her father was Sanders Bowman.

The 1880 census revealed Daniel was a day laborer and they were living in Mayo River, Patrick County, Virginia. They, their parents and children were all born in Virginia. They could not read or write. Household members: Daniel L. Branch (29), Elizabeth J. (28), Abram D. (8), Rosanna (7), Alverta E. (6), Robert E. (5) and Pocahontas (2).

The 1900 census revealed they rented their home in Dan River, Patrick County, Virginia. They were married twenty-seven years, had eight children and eight still living. Daniel was born on January 1852 and Elizabeth was born in January 1851. Household members: Daniel L. Branch (48), Elizabeth (49), Pocahontas (22), John (19), Edmon (16) and Mary A. (13).

The 1910 census revealed Daniel worked on his own account as a farmer. They were married thirty-eight years, had eight children and eight still living. Household members: D. L. Branch (60), Elizabeth (59) and grandson, William M. (9).

The 1920 census revealed Betty was a widow and worked on her own account as a farmer. She rented her home in Mayo River, Patrick County, Virginia. Her divorced son, Ed was living with her. Household members: Bettie Branch (67) and Ed (38).

Elizabeth died some time after 1920.

In interviewing a family member who is now deceased, he advised me that she is buried in a cemetery on Carter's Mountain in Stuart, Virginia. A hike to that mountainous location will take place in the fall of 2023 to photograph and document said cemetery.
