Oliver was born in Follet, Vermont & he also had lived in Connecticut. Oliver served was a private in Capt Eell's company under Col Durkee's regiment, Connecticut Line. Being 16 years old at the beginning of the Revolutionary War, he went with the regiment in 1776 as a cook or Officer's servant. He was in the battle of Long Island on 8/27/1776 & he almost was captured. In 1780, he became a regular enlisted man & continued to fight through 1781.

In 1812, Oliver & his family came to Rushford, NY
He had studied Medicine, but chose to be a Veterinarian.
He also built the 1st sawmill on the Rush Creek.
He was elected Supervisor of Rushford for 3 terms. He was a Justice of the Peace. he also became an Allegheny County Judge. He was also in the Rushford Masonic Lodge.

Oliver had 14 Children by his 3 wives.
