A daughter of their son, George revealed Lewis was shot while trying to apprehend someone under a bed.

The 1860 census revealed Lucinda was a widow and a housekeeper. Household members: Lucinda Bowman (40), Thomas F. (16), William H. (14), Tyrca (12), John (10), George C. (9) and Joseph (7). Her father-in-law, Arch Bowman and family lived a few houses away. Five other Bowman families also lived on that street.

Marriage record revealed Lucinda Bowman (35), married James Palmer (46) on June 27, 1861 in Patrick County, Virginia. They were both widowed. Her mother's name was Mary. His parents were Edward and Charlotte Palmer.
