Services for George Washington Hesser, 86, Oklahoma pioneer, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in Stillwater First Christian Church. Hesser who played the fife in the Hesser martial band for General Sherman was one of the oldest and best-known pioneers of Payne County. Burial will be Fairlawn Cemetery under direction of Vincent Funeral Home. He came to Payne County in 1896 and homesteaded near Glencoe where he died. He was a farmer and stockman and a song leader by avocation. A member of the 100F, he is survived by his wife, sons, John, Cushing; Abe C., Stillwater; Phillip T., Glencoe; daughters, Mrs. Rosalind Johnson, Litchfield, Minn.; Mrs. Sarah J. Miller, Runnells, Iowa; Mrs. Ruth Miller, Des Moines, Iowa; Mrs. Winnie Ginter, Glencoe, and Mrs. Doris May, Glencoe; brothers, William and Jake, Glencoe; sisters, Clara Wilson, Morrell, Neb., and Della Purcell, Calif. He is also survived by 34 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchildren.
