Funeral services for Lois M. Abbott, 72, were held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000 at the First Wyoming United Presbyterian church in Torrington with the Rev. Peggy Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery.

She died on Dec 2, 2000 at Presbyterian Saint Luke's Hospital in Denver. A memorial has been established to the Upton Wyoming Branch of the Weston County Library.

She was born on May 22, 1928 in Gordon, Neb the daughter of John Waterman and Anna (Kahout) Baker. She grew up and attended school in Gordon, graduating from Gordon High School in 1946. She went on to attend Chadron State College for two years.

She married Robert B. Abbott on June 25, 1948 in Gordon. The couple lived in Upton where she worked out of her home as a newspaper reporter for the Newcastle Journal and the Sheridan Press papers. The couple moved to Torrington in 1987. Lois had served on the Weston County Library Board and she was a member of the First Wyoming United Presbyterian Church and of the Church Circle.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and L. D. Smith of Aurora, Colo; sons, Ron Abbott of Basalt, Colo; and Cliff Abbott and his wife Julie of Upton; brother A. R. Baker of Lapwai, Idaho, sister, Mildred Wickwire of Lewiston, Idaho; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, Ira Baker and sister, Evelyn Thomson.

Culver Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
