Frank W. Garfield
a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, was called by the Lord to be with his beautiful wife, Gerry, on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at Rose Lane Health Center. Frank was born on Sept. 14, 1922 in Orrville, Ohio to the late Stephen and Mary (Tupsia) Garfield. He graduated in 1940 from McKinley High School and entered The Ohio State University. At the onset of World War II, Frank enlisted into the United States Army and proudly served his country. After returning from the war, Frank earned his Bachelor's Degree in Education from Kent State University in 1949. He began his teaching career in the Canton City Schools at the Elementary level. He later transitioned into the high school teaching Industrial Arts at Timken High School, the school he eventually retired from in 1981. Frank coached football at Lincoln High School and then joined the football staff at Timken. For 25 years he was a successful wrestling coach and eventually was inducted into the Stark County Hall of Fame. Frank was a member of St. Joan of Arc Parish, and for many years taught CCD. He was also a proud member of the The Knights of Columbus. Among his many talents, Frank loved working with wood. Throughout his life he was called upon by his family to make special gifts for special occasions. All could see the joy it brought him. Frank was also an avid fisherman, who loved to share his time and his small boat with his children and grandchildren. Along with his parents and Gerry, Frank was preceded in death by his two sons, Daniel and Timothy and his brother, Robert Garfield.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his children and their spouses, Nancy (Bill) Adams of Wadsworth, Barbara (Greg) Genetin of Navarre, Linda (Larry) Pollock of Jackson Township and David (Elizabeth) Garfield of Phoenix, Ariz.; his grandchildren, Tim (Nikki), Bill (Stef), Theresa, Michael (Sara), and Maria Adams, Dan, Renee, Michelle, Jackie, Tommy and Laura Genetin, Kyle, Brittany and Matthew Pollock, Timothy, Caroline, Henry and Evan Garfield; his great-grandchildren, Anthony and Alexis Adams; and his sister, Alice Byrne of Chicago, Ill.
