The 1881 "History of Saline County, Missouri" said that Samuel H. Green was a native of Estelle (sic) County, Kentucky and born in 1797. He married Elizabeth McKinney, and the couple had 10 children, eight of whom were living in when the history was published. He came to Missouri and settled on a tract of land about one and one-fourth miles west of Arrow Rock, known in 1881 as the "Green farm." The history said he died in 1871 and was buried at the Arrow Rock cemetery and that his wife was still living.

In addition to the above information from the "History of Saline County, Missouri," Bureau of Land Management patent records show Samuel H. Green obtained the east half of the northeast quarter of Section 34, Township 50N, Range 19W on Feb. 10, 1831. This is the same location described in the history. The 1876 county plat map shows the same land under ownership of one of his sons, L. B. Green.

Note that while the history gives the death year of 1871, his tombstone in Arrow Rock Cemetery gives a death year of 1869.
