A number of years ago Mr. Harris decided to leave his native state, Pennsylvania, and settle in Virginia. He purchased the farm on which he resided since coming to this country. He was twice married, both wives preceding him to the grave. He is survived by the following children: Mrs. J. W. Eiffert of Roanoke; Capt. Charles W. Harris of Connecticut; Mrs. W. W. Buck of Rural Retreat; Mrs. Trigg Scott of Marion; Mrs. Ida Williams of Texas; Mrs. Ed Kabrich of Christiansburg; Mrs. G. H. Perkinson of Danville; Mrs. F. W. Hardy of Keystone, W.Va.; Mrs. F. L. Lamon of Norfolk; Mr. Walter Harris of Welch, W.Va. and Mr. B. W. Harris, who lives at the home place.
The funeral service was held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at Mount Ephraim Church conducted by Rev. M. L. Burris and Rev. F. R. Snavely of Wytheville. The interment followed in the family plot. Mr. Harris served in the Federal Army during the Civil War and was a member of Cavalry Company. He served on the Peninsular of Virginia.
