Thomas Frederick "Freddy" Barr, 65, of Taplin went to be with the Lord Wednesday, April 21, 2010, from St. Mary's Hospital at Huntington after a long illness.
He was born November 5, 1944, at Crites, a son of the late Thurman and Iris Curry Barr.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alton and Ruth Rakes Gayheart.
Freddy was a coal miner and mechanic formerly employed with Elkay Mining Company at Rich Creek. He was a member of the UMWA District 17. When he was able he attended Taplin Free Will Baptist Church at Taplin. Freddy enjoyed fishing and hunting with his daughter, Lori, and working on lawn mowers. Devoted to his family, Freddy was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of upteen years, Carolyn Sue Pauley Barr of Taplin; six children, Jenny Barr at home, Lori Barr of Wharton, James Bartley of NY, April (Robbie) Nelson of FL, Vicky Toler of AL, and Lee Toler of Elk Creek; one adopted daughter, Michelle Elam of Wharton; seven grandchildren, Derek Toler and Jeremy Toler, both of Elk Creek, Mikie and Ryan Nelson of FL, Thomas, James, and Allison Bartley of NY; two adopted grandchildren, James and Emily Elam of Wharton; one sister, Kathy Barr of Mallory; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Eva and Calahan Maynard of Ashland, KY, Jimmy and Shirley Pauley of FL, Alton Gayheart of TN, and Lucy and Dennis Parton of Davin; many nieces and nephews; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, April 26, 2010, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man with Rev. Butch Cobb officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Sunday at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home and one hour prior to services.
Pall bearers will be family and friends.
