Joni was the daughter of Dennis and Janice York Brown. Joni graduated from East Burke High School and had completed her college courses to graduate with her class in the spring. She was a local spokesperson and supporter for muscular dystrophy research, and was an inspiration to all.

On her stone are engraved the following words:

LIVE YOUR LIFE TO THE FULLEST AND MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT.
FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS AND GOALS AND DO NOT EVER GIVE UP.
LOOK TO GOD FOR STRENGTH AND HE WILL BLESS YOU.
