Joseph Owen Sweeney was the son of Anthony Bernard Sweeney and Mary Ann Sweeney nee Murry. His father was a pioneer of Texarkana, Ark. having arrived there abt. 1882-3. His parents are buried in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, on the Texas side of town.
Joseph was born in Missouri while parents were on trip to see relatives in Missouri. Joseph was married one time but this marriage was later annulled. Joseph served in the U.S. Navy during World War One and was in France several times from old post cards that were found and which he sent home to his Mother. Joseph also belonged to the VFW in Memphis, Tennessee. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Memphis, Tenn. Joseph was a quiet man and well liked and very respected. Worked for many years for the McFadden Cotton Company, Memphis, Tenn., as an Accountant.
