Rev. S. J. Gossard, a prominent citizen of the western part of this county for ten years prior to 1894, died at the home of his son, Dr. C.E.Gossard, at Madison, Neb., Tuesday morning of this week. The remains will be taken to Cortland for burial beside Mrs. Gossard, who died in 1892. Rev. Gossard was the stepfather of Senator William V. Allen of Nebraska, and was a Methodist minister for many years in the state of Iowa. Besides three step-children, he leaves two sons, O.S. and Dr. C.E. Gossard, both well known in this county. The death of Rev. Gossard is a personal loss to the writer, he and his noble wife being among our best and truest friends for more than thirty years.
