"The death of Miss Edith LePelley Allez of this village occurred suddenly Sunday morning at the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital. Miss Allez, who was 80 years old, was stricken at her home on Fair Street early Sunday morning, and taken to the hospital where she passed away two hours and a half later. Miss Allez was born January 29, 1881 on the Channel Island of Guernsey off the English coast, a daughter of George LePelly and Rachel (deJausserand) Allez. She lived in London before coming to Cooperstown in 1906 when her brother, the late Andrew deJ. Allez became organist at Christ Church. She had lived in Cooperstown for the past 55 years. In England, Miss Allez was a secretary with the Singer Sewing Machine Company, and after coming to this country, she was a legal secretary in Albany. She later became a medical secretary at the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown where she was employed until her retirement several years ago ... She is survived by a sister, Miss Ida M. Allez, with whom she made her home here, and several nieces and nephews. The office of the burial of the dead and a Requiem Eucharist was celebrated at Christ Church at noon on Wednesday. The body lay in state at the church from 11 a.m., Tuesday until the hour of the funeral. Burial was in the churchyard. Bearers were Wardens, Vestrymen and Associate Vestrymen of the church."
