Adopted to Cecil B. DeMille following the death of her father in World War One and her mother dying from tuberculosis. Katherine's biological father was Lieutenant Edward Gabriel Lester (Canadian Infantry), Findagrave #56256450.

From 1937 to 1965, she was married to Anthony Quinn. Their son, Christopher, drowned in W.C. Field's pool. In 1953 she accepted Anthony's Oscar win for "Best Supporting Actor".

Her children were Christopher (1938-1941), Christina (born December 1, 1941), Catalina (born November 21, 1942), Duncan (born August 4, 1945), and Valentina (born December 26, 1952).

Appeared in thirty-one films like The Crusades (1935), Romeo and Juliet (1936) as Rosaline, and Charlie Chan at the Olympics (1937).
