Jerome L. "Jerry" Seyller of Plato Center Services for Jerome L. "Jerry" Seyller, 88, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Cornerstone Methodist Church, 41W170 Russell Road, Plato Center, with the Rev. Paul C. Meyers officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Plato Center Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today, at Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park St., Hampshire, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the services Saturday, at the church. Born Sept. 19, 1916, in Elgin, the son of Edward and Helen (nee Lester) Seyller, he passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2005, at Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin. Jerry was a 1934 graduate of Plato Center High School. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a chief warrant officer in the 100th Bomb Group. Jerry married Claire Tazewell on April 24, 1943, in Pueblo, Colo., and three days later he shipped out to England, where he served for 26 months. Following the war, Jerry returned to Plato Center where he helped his father and his brother, Glenn, in the operation of Ed Seyller & Sons. He later worked as a heavy equipment operator for 18 years with Curran Construction, retiring in 1986. He was a longtime bus driver serving two generations of children. Mr. Seyller served as a volunteer firefighter for more than 40 years helping organize the Pingree Grove/Countryside Fire Protection District, and serving as fire chief for 23 years. He was a member of Cornerstone Methodist Church, the Kane County Fire Chiefs, Hampshire VFW Post #8043, Operating Engineers Local #150, and he was a 60-year member of the Genoa Masonic Lodge #288 A.F. & A.M. He loved to dance and enjoyed playing cards and going out for breakfast. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Claire; daughter, Betsey (Larry) Warrington of Kabetogama, Minn.; son, Jay (Linda) Seyller of Virgil; grandchildren, Chad (Sabrina) Warrington of Carson, Calif., Sally (David) McRoberts of Kabetogama and Amy Seyller of Virgil; great-grandchildren, Nathan and Cameron McRoberts; brother, Glenn Seyller of Huntley; sister, Edna "Toots" Haines of Gilberts; and sister-in-law, Jean Ehlers of Elgin. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Vera "Bebe" Yarborough. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Pingree Grove/Countryside Fire Protection District.
