He was assigned at one time to First Army and Aachen, Germany, and was with the first convoy that landed in Africa in November 1942. Participated in first landing of Operation Torch, (Africa and Tunisia) and Fall of Bizerte. Followed on to Sicily. Served in England. Landed on the beach during fourth wave of Normandy invasion, fighting into France by the third day, and on to Belgium. Served in Battle of the Bulge. Served in Operation Market Garden and Siegfried Line in Aachen, Germany.

Wounded in action, temporarily losing use of right hand during land mine explosion. Shot in upper left chest.

Tom was a stout and robust man. He was a mentor and a good friend. Tom was the surrogate grandfather to a large family of children down the street who had no grandparents. Those children loved him dearly.

His occupation was listed as electrician on the Washtenaw County, Michigan marriage certificate to Ruth Wilkin.

Tom raised sweet corn and vine crops. He owned a green Dodge pickup, a Farmall model M tractor with associated implements, a Farmall model H tractor with two row cultivators, a John Deere model M tractor with attachments, a John Deere wagon, a New Idea plant setter, a duster, plows and disk harrows, and various other farm tools.
