Born in Vinemont, Pennsylvania on January 9, 1871, he was educated in the township schools of Spring and Lower Heidleberg. Milton later attended a private school taught by Professor H. H. Clouser at Sinking Spring. In 1894, he graduated from Keystone State Normal School (now Kutztown State).

While at Kutztown State, Milton became good friends with Franklin Pierce Miller, a fellow student. Franklin Miller invited Milton to his home south of Weitzeltown and introduced him to his sister, Sarah Ida Miller (August 27, 1875-July 29, 1944). Milton and Ida were married at Hains Church on September 9, (or 15?) 1894, by Reverend William J. Kershner.

Ida was the daughter of Peter and Susan (Epler) Miller of Fritztown, Pennsylvania, and to this union there have been born two children: Irwin J. and Emma E.

Milton taught at a number of one-room school houses in Berks County, among them Marsh School, Gerharts School, and Ruth's School. In 1904, he moved to West Reading where he was teacher and principal at West Reading High School. In 1915, the family moved to a farm in a hamlet called Stieleytown which was next to the farm of John Klopp (the father of Mary Hannah Klopp, Mary Hannah Klopp married Milton's eldest son, Irwin)and just northeast of the Hains Church Cemetery.

After the death of his wife, Ida, in 1944, he moved to West Wyomissing where he lived with his daughter and son-in-law Helen and Roy Wagner, and their family at 1930 Cleveland Avenue. He died there on September 29, 1948.

Many thanks to Roy M. Rentz, for this information.
