Simeon was a dry goods merchant in business with his brother , Silas Jr., in Mapleton, Monono County, IA in 1880. By 1887 he had moved his family to Holstein, Ida County, IA where he was also a dry goods merchant, but this time partnering with his brother-in-law, Frank H. Rea until Frank sought another career in 1890. By 1897 he was a Merchandise Broker in Holstein, his dry goods store, known as the Cash Store, having been taken over by Becker & Cheever.
