James Russell Benac, Jr. passed away on Wednesday April 17th 2013 at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. He was born on July 23rd, 1968 in Lupton, Michigan to the late James Russell Benac, Sr. and Ms. Katherine Bergey Benac.

James served honorably as a 20-year United States Navy Corpsman. He retired from the Navy on February 1, 2007. During his career he received several commendations and awards which his superior regarded his "can-do" spirit and vision for customer service. He sailed with the USS Tortuga in 1998. He was a certified CPR Instructor, EMT, and Staff Health Coordinator.

On December 30th, 2006, he remarried to Maria Antoinette Jones of Beaufort, SC. He was a devoted father of 3 daughters whom he adored and loved with all of his heart. He faithfully attended and was a member of Grays Hill Baptist Church.

In December 2009, he graduated with honors from USCB with a degree in History. He was a library volunteer with the Beaufort County Library System and pen turner hobbyist. He worked as a Pharmacy Technician at the Naval Hospital Beaufort, before being diagnosed with leukemia on June 28th 2012.

Services will be held on Tuesday, April 23rd, 2013 at 11:30 AM at Grays Hill Baptist Church located at 2749 Trask Pkwy; Beaufort, SC 29906. A viewing has been planned for 10:30 AM at the church. Interment will be at the National Cemetery Beaufort with full military honors at 1:00 PM.
