Jan Froeb Binford

Passed away peacefully on April 11, 2013. She was born in Terre Haute, Indiana on July 24, 1931 to the late Karl A. Froeb and Josephine Froeb, living her youth in Terre Haute.

She was a graduate of Indiana University and received a degree in Anthropology in 1953. Indiana University was her first love and she was very active in campus activities. She was a member of KAPPA ALPHA THETA Sorority, on the A.W.S. Council, Mortar Board and the I.U. Student Foundation Board. Jan was instrumental in starting the first "LITTLE 500" with Howard (Howdy) S. Wilcox and others.

After graduation from I.U. Jan became the Personnel Manager at Indianapolis Newspaper Inc. until 1975.

She worked at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Safety Office with Joe Quinn and Jack O'Neal, and was active in the 500 Festival Board and PBS Channel 20, where she was head of the Channel 20 Auction in the 1970's.

Jan was married to Thomas Calvert from 1953-1961 and was married to Thomas W. Binford from 1965-1980.
