Elizabeth Hattie "Liz" Leach Desjardins, 79 of Brasher Falls, died Saturday morning at the Massena Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Friends and family are invited to call Tuesday afternoon 2-4 p.m. and evening 7-9 p.m. at the Phillips Memorial Home in Massena. A Mass of Resurrection will be Wednesday (June 5, 2013) 12 noon at the Church of the Sacred Heart with Rev. Donald J. Manfred presiding. Interment will be in the family plot at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Hopkinton. Those wishing to honor Elizabeth's memory may do so through contributions to the Trinity Catholic Endowment Fund or Hospice.

Elizabeth was born in Hopkinton October 6, 1933, the daughter of Paul Silas Leach and Ruth Peninah Trask. She was married to Gerard Joseph "Jerry" Desjardins December 18, 1954 at St. Mary's Church in Massena with Rev. James Ruddy presiding in a double wedding with Frederick Leach and Lucille Desjardins, their siblings. Gerard died March 8, 2001. Elizabeth was a dental assistant for many years under Dr. Saul L. Fliegel in Potsdam where she had received her training. Elizabeth and Gerard spent a great deal of time together hunting, fishing and playing cards. She was an avid gardener and bowler for many years and was later named an honorary member of the Roaring Brook Hunting Club of South Colton following the passing of her beloved husband, Gerard. She also enjoyed membership in the Parishville Grange for many years.

Elizabeth was actively involved in the upbringing of her grandchildren and great grandchildren including taking the great grandchildren to the Mall weekly, and always attending all baseball games, concerts, ceremonies, etc. both near and far. She also enjoyed having coffee frequently with her coffee club friends at McDonalds Restaurant in Massena and traveling with her family in the motorhome.

Elizabeth is survived by her beloved daughter, Lynne Marie and husband Ernest Eugene "Buddy" Draper Jr. of Norfolk; grandsons Matthew Ernest and Erin (Soluri) of Norfolk, Andrew Nicholas and Carly (Fenner) of Watertown, and Michael Gerard of Norfolk; great grandchildren Benjamin Gerard, Aaden Matthew and Allyson Marie, all of Norfolk, and an anxiously awaited great granddaughter whose name is known only by her parents to be and her "Meme" (as Elizabeth was known by her great grandchildren); a sister, Ellen Lindsey of Ft. Jackson; and many nieces and nephews. Elizabeth is also remembered fondly by her companion, Robert "Bob" Jarvis, who, after the passing of her late husband, became a significant member of this small and close-knit family.

She was preceded in death by her infant son, Ronald Gerard; brothers John Allen and Frederick Paul Leach; and sisters Roleane Mae Spear and Nina Edith Leach.

She was not only Lynne's mother, but also her best friend, as well as an incredible, strong, caring, amazing woman who taught and gave all of those that surrounded her a great deal. They will all cherish the time they had with her, and will love and miss her more than any words can express.
