Samuel Abate, 87, of Meadowlawn Ave., died Saturday, March 29, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness. Born in San Martino, Italy and resident of Troy since 1933, he was the son of the late Michele and Anna Simeione Abate. Mr. Abate was a graduate of Troy High School and employed as a sheet metal worker for Local #83 in Albany, for 40 years, until his retirement in 1967. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, in the Pacific Theater, serving on the USS Tangiers. Mr. Abate enjoyed golf, reading and plant gardening. He was also active with Sheet Metal Workers Union #83, serving in many different capacities and was instrumental in their vocational school. He is survived by his wife, Concetta Pisanello Abate; three children, Michael J. (Clara) Abate of Watervliet, Anthony S. (Linda) Abate of Troy and Anne E. Jutton of Schenectady; brother of Anthony (Silvia) Abate of Colonie and the late Domenico Abate and Carlo Abate; grandfather of David A. Abate, Anthony W. Abate, Stephen J. Jutton, Daniel P. Jutton, and Rachel K. Abate; great-grandfather of Lucas Abate, Cristian Abate and Marie Jutton; uncle of Maryann Johanning, Samuel Abate and several other nieces and nephews. Funeral will be Thursday at 8:45 a.m. for the Riverview Funeral Home, 218 Second Ave. (at 104th St.), Troy and at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Church, Troy. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum. Relatives and friends may call Wednesday, 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
