Prof. Arthur Clark Everling 1943 - 2013 SPRINGFIELD - Professor Arthur "Clark" Everling, 70, beloved husband, brother and uncle passed away on April 20, 2013 at home with his wife by his side. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Arthur and Ruth (Francis) Everling. He was a 1965 graduate of Butler University and went on to earn his Master's Degree in History at the University of Cincinnati in 1967. In 1976 he received his Ph.D. in History from Pennsylvania State University. He began his teaching career in 1967 at Virginia State University where he was an Assistant Professor of History. He went on to receive tenure at Ramapo College of New Jersey as Assistant Professor of Labor Studies and also taught at Indiana University Northwest in the same capacity. He began teaching at Empire State College, State University of NY, as an Associate Professor of Labor Studies, receiving tenure there in 1983. He was appointed Full Professor of Labor Studies in 1995 and Professor Emeritus in 2008. Clark authored two books on Social and Political Economy and was working on his third when he became ill. He was also the author of numerous articles and publications. He was a lifelong defender of the working class. He loved books, evidenced by his extensive personal library. Clark was also an avid pen collector and especially enjoyed Rock and Roll. His intellectual passions were history, economics, philosophy, politics and Marxism. He leaves his loving wife of 14 years, Rosemary Polletta, whom he cherished dearly; his sister, Jane Willis of Indianapolis, whom he grew up with and was his lifelong friend; his brother-in-law, Leonard Polletta and his wife, Karen Gisonny of Brooklyn, NY; his nephew, Benjamin Pittman-Polletta and niece, Margrit Pittman-Polletta. Family and friends are invited to pay their condolences at the family home on Tuesday, April 23rd from 3:30-6:30PM. The family extends thanks and appreciation to the nursing and medical staff at BSMC, Baystate VNA and Hospice, Griswold Home Care and the private aides who cared for Clark in his last days. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Forastiere Smith Funeral Home.
