Sam C. Pearson Jr., 76, Prairie Village, an insurance executive, died July 3, 1993, at the home. Services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Second Presbyterian Church of Kansas City. Friends may call after the services Wednesday at the church. The family suggests contributions to the Peter S. Pearson Diabetes Foundation at Children's Mercy Hospital.


Mr. Pearson worked for the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co. for 50 years and formerly was general agent for western Missouri. He also was president of the Pearson Land and Cattle Co. and Sutherland Building Products. He was past president of the Kansas City and Missouri state life underwriters' associations. He served on the boards of governors of the American Royal and the Agricultural Hall of Fame.


He formerly was a precinct captain for the Citizens Association and formerly was a deputy election commissioner in Kansas City. He was a trustee of the church and served on its board of deacons. He served on the board of the St. Luke's Hospital Foundation. He was a member of the Nelson Gallery Society of Fellows, Equity Investors, Ducks Unlimited, the Kansas City Country Club, the River Club, the Mercury Club, the University Club and the Kansas City Club.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, received a Bronze Star and was a member of the Military Order of World Wars. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia and was president of Beta Theta Pi there. He was a lifelong area resident; he also had residences in Branson and Rich Hill in Missouri.


Survivors include his wife, Donna Sutherland Pearson of the home; two daughters, Ann P. Kleb, Mission Hills, and Susan P. Wilson, Olathe; two sons, Sam C. Pearson III, Olathe, and Steven S. Pearson, Leawood; a sister, Marjorie Scott, Prairie Village; and 10 grandchildren.
