George Edmond or Edward Austin was born about February 8, 1860, in New London, Campbell County, Virginia, the son of Reverend Thomas Lovatt and Martha N. (Ward) Austin. He married Nellie Arvilla Huston on December 25, 1890, in Brock, Nemaha County, Nebraska. Nellie was born October 29, 1871, in Nebraska. They adopted two daughters:
1. Dorothy Mae Austin born August 31, 1909 in Nebraska. Dorothy died March 21, 2000, in Los Angeles County, California. To my knowledge, Dorothy never married.
2. Lucy Roberta Austin, born January 23, 1913 in Nebraska. She married Louis Dale Downey on May 29, 1942. They had at least one son, Mark Wayne Downey (1944-1967). Louis died October 7, 1987 and Lucy died February 11, 2012, in Bellflower, Los Angeles County, California.
Ed (as he was commonly referred to) and Nellie lived in Nebraska City, Otoe County, Nebraska until his death which was June 27, 1937 from heart disease. After the death of her husband, Nellie moved to Los Angeles, California where she died December 5, 1959. Note, there are two different Find A Grave memorials for Nellie Arvila (Huston) Austin, one in California FAG #85341173 and one for Nellie Austin in Otoe County, Nebraska FAG #137786618.
