Homer D. ALLEN, 78, of Peru died at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Dukes Memorial Hospital in Peru.
He was born in Williams to Frank and Rebecca MOFFATT ALLEN. He married Margaret Ruth TYREE on July 27, 1946, in Lawrenceville, Ill.
He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving as an aircraft mechanic in North Africa. He graduated from Anderson College with a bachelor's degree in education in 1952, received a master's degree from Ball State University in 1962, and a principal's license in 1963. He taught fifth grade at Syracuse Elementary School from 1952 to 1963, then was a principal at North Miami Elementary School until his retirement in 1986. He attended Mexico Church of the Brethren.
Surviving with his wife Margaret, Peru, is one daughter, Denise Ann ALLEN, Peru; one son, Marvin Kent ALLEN, with wife Janis, Mexico; two grandchildren, Jammie ALLEN and Rick ALLEN; on great-granddaughter, Brittany ALLEN; one brother, Lester ALLEN, of Mitchell; three sisters, Sarah Jane EVANS, Indianapolis, Lola Mae QUINN, Mitchell, and Faustina WORSHAM, Deland, Fla. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ray, Harry and Arthur ALLEN, and three sisters, Roxie WILLIAMS, Maudie WATERSON and Ruby MARSHALL.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Friday at McClain Funeral Home, Denver, with Pastor Eldon KRIDER officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Mexico. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
