Verona Johnson , 83, of 1127 South Front Street in New Ulm, died Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.
Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, at the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor Jeffrey Bovee officiating. Burial will be in the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Saturday.
Verona is survived by her daughters, Carol Helget of Henning and Sharon Westberg of New Ulm; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Janell Johnson of Jeffers, David and Leah Johnson of Portage, Wisconsin, and Jerry and Mary Jo Johnson of Spirit Lake, Iowa; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Lorraine Hildebrandt of Gaylord and Arlene Hildebrandt and her husband, Wilbert of rural Gaylord.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Wesley Johnson in December of 1953; a daughter, Linda Schmidt in October of 2003; sisters, Laverne Zamzow in infancy; and brothers, Elmer Zamzow Jr. and Ivan Zamzow.
Verona Emilie Louise Zamzow was born on August 9, 1921, to Elmer J. and Martha B. (Dummer) Zamzow in Three Lakes Township, Redwood County. She attended country school near Clements. Verona was baptized and confirmed at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Morgan. On Wednesday, April 18, 1945, she married John Wesley Johnson in Winthrop. They lived in New Ulm. John Wesley died in 1953, and she continued to raise the six children on her own. Verona was a Christian woman who knew the way to salvation through Christ Jesus. She enjoyed knitting, gardening, canning and babysitting. She was a member of the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm.
