John A. Vandevier, 88 passed away on Friday, April 26, 2013.

John was born in Flagstaff, Arizona on March 8th, 1925 to Arthur and Laura Vandevier.

He graduated from Flagstaff High School as the first freshman to earn a varsity letter in football. He had planned on playing football in the fall in college but when World War Two began, as many young men of that era did, John joined the Navy. He returned to Flagstaff as a wounded, disabled veteran. He was proud of his service to his country.

John later attended Arizona State College at Flagstaff, (NAU) and received a degree in commerce and biology. While attending college he met and married his wife of 65 years Eva M. Kentera of Globe, Arizona.

Together they began successful careers in the hospitality business with the ownership of motels in: Blythe, California, Flagstaff, Winslow, Tucson, and Williams, Arizona. He was a member of the Board of Governors for Best Western Hotels International serving the States of Arizona and Utah. John served on the Flagstaff City Council, was a founding member of the Flagstaff Sheriff's Posse, a Life member of the Shriners and Flagstaff Masonic Lodge, and the V.F.W. of Flagstaff.

John is preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Laura Vandevier.

He is survived by his wife Eva M. Vandevire, brother James Vandevier of Kingman, Arizona. His sons John A. Vandevier Jr., (Susan)of Phoenix Arizona, Mark L. Vandevier, ~ (Karlene)of Mesa Arizona, and his Granddaughters Laura Ann Vandevier, and Sara Elizabeth Vandevier, of Scottsdale, Arizona.

Family request memorial donations be made to Hospice of Arizona, 191820 N. 7th, Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85027.

Funeral services will be Saturday, May 4th 10am at the Norvel Owens Mortuary burial will be at the Citizens Cemetery.
