NOTE: In the 1850 census, he was in Augusta, Maine. (NOTE: Before Augusta, Maine, the Lyon family was from Mass. )
That 1850 census had:
Elon Lyon: 66 male
Martha Lyon: 58 female
Lewis W Lyon: 16 male
I believe that Elon & Martha may have been Lewis W's parents. If that is the case, his family tree is:

Note: His son, Lewis Henry Lyon, has a finadgrave memorial which includes a small biography of this family. This was from 1902 for the Histories of Neosho & Wilson Counties. Specifically in this book, they mentioned that Lewis Woodman Lyon was a mechanic and had a reputation as being a fine brick layer. They gave him credit for being part of the crew that help build the University of Kansas and the Eldrich House Hotel. He supposedly moved to Lawrence around 1863. He didn't move to Wilson County until 1870. The first official building at KU was the Old North College building. I have included a 1867 photograph of that building which was taken by Alexander Gardner. As for the Eldrich House Hotel, that burned down several times. The last time was with Quantril's Raid which happened on 21-Aug-1863. Since the Biography states that Lewis Woodman Lyon moved to Lawrence in 1863, he most likely was involved in the building of the hotel that stands today. Colonel Eldridge had it rebuild soon after Quantril's Raid, and opened it up in 1865. Also note that in 1867, Col. Eldridge opened up the Broadway house in Kansas City, now known as the Coats House. In 1877, he opened up the Eldridge House in Coffeyville, KS. Finally, in 1878 he opened up a Hotel in Atchinson, KS.
Note: Information of the Lyon ancestors is from the book: Lyon Memorial -- Massachusetts Families:
William Lyon of Roxbury
Peter Lyon of Dorchester
George Lyon of Dorchester
published 1905
That portion dealing with Peter Lyon I starts on page 320.
