Edward Richard Wheat was the son of Greenberry Wheat and his first wife Lara Martha Heath from Hill County, TX. He married Lou Ella Saunders. Edward Wheat's mother, Martha Heath, was committed to an insane asylum when he was a youth. His father Greenberry, remarried. Edward Richard Wheat and Lou Ella had at least one daughter, Olive Wheat born 4 March 1898 in Blum, Hill County, TX. Edward owned Ed Wheat's Ranch Saloon in Big Spring, TX. He was killed in a 'shootout' with Sheriff J.A. Baggett on November 26, 1903 and buried here at Mount Olive Cemetery.
