In Memory of John K Chance
September 6, 1928 - April 29, 2013

John K. Chance, 84, passed away on April 29, 2013 in Stuart, Florida.

He was born in Urbana, Ohio on September 6, 1928. Educated in the public schools of Urbana and St. Clairsville, Ohio, he graduated from Linsley Military Institute in Wheeling, WV as Valedictorian and honor graduate.

Enlisting in the Army near the end of World War II, John served in Fort Knox, Kentucky for three years. Upon his discharge as a staff sergeant, he attended Baldwin Wallace University in Ohio.

John graduated just in time to be recalled for the Korean War where he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. After service in the 3rd Armored Division, John was assigned to the Psychological Warfare staff at the Far East Command. He remained in this specialty and during tours of active duty. John served on the Army General staff and the National Security, retiring as a Lt. Commander in 1988. During his service, he was awarded 18 decorations and service medals.

In civilian life, he was assistant Adv. Manager for the Upjohn Company, and later he ran a printing plant.

John was a college instructor at Ohio University, and later at Urbana University. He finished his working career as an appraiser of mines and minerals properties.

He was also elected the Vice President of the American Association of Mineral Appraisers in 2002, and retired in 2006. John was the President of the Sports Car Club of Ohio.

John loved boating and was a member of the Annapolis Maryland Yacht Club, He was the past commander of the St. Lucie RIVER Power Squadron, five time Commander of the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotillas and recent Fleet Captain of the Saints and Sinners Yacht Club.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marjorie, his constant work and travel companion, and great love of his life.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 9th, 2013 at 4:30 PM at the Mariner Cay Clubhouse, 3901 SE St Lucie Blvd, Stuart, FL 34997.
