Mr. John C. Shafer, one of the wealthiest citizens of Richmond, died quite suddenly last night at his residence on Park avenue. Mr. Shafer came here fifty years ago with Maj. Lewis Ginter, the cigarette magnate. Mr. Shafer went into the merchant tailoring business, which he conducted up to three years ago. He was worth probably $300,000. He leaves seven children.
