Born in Hartford, Connecticut, John lived in Greenfield, Massachusetts; Madison, Wisconsin; and Oxford, Ohio before finally settling in Huron.

After graduating from Bowling Green State University, he traveled for two years with the Covenant Players.

In 1981, he married Cynthia Schweiger and they were blessed with three children.

After earning a master's degree, he became career services coordinator at BGSU Firelands. In 2011, he received the Dean's Special Recognition Award.

For many ears, he served on the Huron Chamber of Commerce, including the role of president. He worked with local youth groups and participated in the Search for the Christ Child for twelve years. He served faithfully at The Chapel Sandusky in the prayer ministry and Food for the Poor.
