William Dee Massengill, age 80, of Nunica passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2006, at his home. He was born June 26, 1926, to Ray and Hazel (Anderson) Massengill in Summersville, Missouri, and he married Mary Jane Adams on June 26, 1948, in Trout Lake, Michigan. She preceded him in death on January 24, 2000.
Mr. Massengill moved to the area in 1962 and was employed by Muskegon Piston Ring for several years. He was retired from the U.S. Coast Guard, having served his country in World War II, the Korean Conflict, and Vietnam. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the VFW, the American Legion, and the Eagles Lodge in Fruitport.
Mr. Massengill is survived by 2 daughters, Deborah (Pat) Nelmark of Gowen, MI, and Jayne (Ed) Krbez of Fruitport; 4 grandchildren: Melissa (Derek) Grammar, Jessica Krbez, Ben (Amanda) Krbez and Bill (Jenny) DeMarse; 2 great-granddaughters, Zoe Grammar and Carly DeMarse; 3 sisters: Laura Adams and Ethel Love, both of Missouri, and Linda Agan of Texas; a brother, Chuck Williams of Alabama; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Massengill was preceded in death by a son, William A. Massengill, in 1965; a brother, Raymond; and 2 sisters, Ina and Genevieve. The service for Mr. Massengill will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 22, 2006, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Spring Lake with Rev. Daniel Anderson officiating. Military honors will be provided by the VFW Honor Guard, Post #2326. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Spring Lake Cemetery.
