John Broderick, 70, pioneer insurance man of Oakland and one of the early factors in the State's history, died at Providence hospital today following a brief illness. He was a native of Boston, Mass., and had lived in Oakland since he was a year old. The dead man is survived by a widow, three sons, Daniel J. Broderick, Lieut. Herbert E. Broderick of the United States Navy, Sergeant Joseph A. Broderick of the National Army; and four daughters, Anita C. Broderick, Mrs. G. N. Black of Oregon, Mrs. W. R. Hannon of Los Angeles, and Mrs. W. F. Wales of Alameda. Funeral services will take place Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock from St. Augustine's church, Dana and Alcatraz avenues.
