RAPHINE - Lyle Fletcher Morrison, 86, husband of Peggy (Buchanan) Morrison of Raphine, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at Augusta Health in Fishersville.

He was born May 25, 1923, in Rockbridge County, a son of the late George H. and Emmie (Snyder) Morrison.

Mr. Morrison was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in WWII in the European Theatre and was wounded in the invasion of Italy.

He was a member of Mount Carmel Presbyterian Church and the Steeles Tavern VFW.

Prior to retirement, Mr. Morrison was employed at Crompton Manufacturing as a velveteen cutter.

In addition to his wife of 66 years, family members include a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Irma Morrison; a granddaughter, Melissa McDaniel, all of Lexington; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Harry, Avis, Zack and Harvey Morrison; and four sisters, Callie Hunter, Mamie Lunsford, Mary Perry and Polly Tyree.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010, at Mount Carmel Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Sandra M. Rushing. Burial will follow in the church cemetery

Active pallbearers are Frank Buchanan, Charles "Bucky" Buchanan, Russell Buchanan, Guy Buchanan, Eddie Lunsford, Sam Lunsford and Jerry Thorn.

Peggy would like to express her sincere appreciation to close friends and relatives for all their help, love and support over the many, many months Lyle was ill. God bless you all and thank you.
