She was the daughter of Richard Coit Elliot and Frances "Fannie" Mudge.

She was a graduate of Colorado College (Colorado Springs) and, for many years, served as a schoolteacher.

Elizabeth married:

(1) H.W. Bennett (1917), who died in 1927

(2) Samuel Matthias Ayres (29 March 1940; Raton, NM), son of Manlius "Manny" Adolphus Ayres and Theresa Virginia Dorsey, who died in March 1962 in Pocatello.

Following Bennett's death, she was County Superintendent of Schools for Douglas Co., CO for a decade.

She was Pocatello's first leader of the Campfire Girls.
