He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, a church elder, chairman of Ellsworth Housing Authority Board, served on the board of directors of the Kanopolis State Bank, and was a member of the Loren Keil Polka Band.

Survivors include his widow, Louise; a daughter, Virginia Valles; his mother, Bertha Gerbitz; and a sister, Delma Leithoff.
