SGT US ARMY - KOREA - and the National Guard
SKOWHEGAN -- Richard A. Corson, 83, of Skowhegan passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2013, in Skowhegan surrounded by his family. He was born in Skowhegan on March 16, 1930, the son of Alcius T. Corson and Isabelle M. (Avery) Corson.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, stationed in Japan. He then served in the National Guard in Skowhegan.

Richard worked for many years as a hand sewer for various shoe companies. During his working years, he also worked for Cianbro Corp. Most recently, he was custodian for the Skowhegan Madison Elks Lodge.

He was a member of the Skowhegan-Madison Elks Lodge, volunteered his time at the Skowhegan-Madison Elks Lodge on just about every committee from Monday night bingo, youth activities, Maine Children's Cancer, Red Cross drives and veterans committee. In addition to being honored as Elk of the Year, Richard was a past Officer of the Year, a past Father of the Year, Elks National Foundation Honorary Founder and an Honorary Life Member. Over the years, he served as an officer, receiving numerous Elk of the month awards.

He is survived by his children, Julie Meckley and her husband, Bob, of Skowhegan, Susan Lord, of Skowhegan, and Chad Corson and his wife, Pamela, of Oakland; one brother, Phillip Green, of Wells; three sisters, Elizabeth Soucy, of Skowhegan, Christine Miller, of Skowhegan, and Maxine Steeves, of Freeport; nine grandchildren, Scott, Amanda, April, Angie, Erik, Ashley, Lianna, Ainsley and Colby; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Richard was predeceased by his mother and father; three brothers, Lester Corson, Eugene Corson and Alcius Corson Jr.; and two sisters, Shirley Greene and Beatrice McKenney.
Burial to be held at a later date at the Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta. (Morning Sentinel 5/7/2013)
