Aged: 39y 11m & 24d

Born: Jan 8, 1838 [calculated] in Cumberland County PA
Died: In Cumberland County PA

The son of Thomas & Agnes Nancy (Watson) Hefflefinger, in 1860 he was a farmer living with his family in Hopewell Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. He married Sarah Catherine Fausnacht October 16, 1862, and fathered Tirzah Bell (b. 01/??/64 - married John Joseph Brehm), Charles V. (b. @1866), Mabel Grace (b. 06/17/73), and David A. (b. 06/11/79).

A Civil War veteran for a brief duration, he was drafted in Carlisle October 16, 1862, mustered into federal service at Camp McClure in Chambersburg November 4 as a private with Co. K, 158th Pennsylvania Infantry (aka "Drafted Militia"), but discharged by order of the secretary of war presumably for health reasons to date December 2, 1862.

To give headaches to historical researchers, there was a second John Hefflefinger in Co. K, 158th Pennsylvania, and he was also born on January 8, 1838. Fortunately, he remained a private, died much later, and is buried as "Heffelfinger." (See FAG #95436610)
