Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life, he who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, John 11:25

Rosemarie Christina Schmink Stroud

Rosemarie departed this life at the age of 58 on May 6, 2013 after a valiant long fight with cancer. Rosemarie was born in Indianapolis on February 4, 1955 to Harold Christian Schmink and Josephine Mildred (McMahon) Schmink. She was a life long member of Our Lady of Lourdes parish and attended Our Lady of Lourdes Grade School and Our Lady of Grace Academy (Beech Grove). She completed her studies at the University of Indianapolis as an RN. During her career as a nurse she was an ICU nurse at IU and worked at other hospitals in Indianapolis.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two of her sisters Mary Schmink (1940) and Saundra Louise Schmink (2002). She is survived by her sister Donna Marie Schmink and her children Travis Lee Day (Michelle), Christina Marie Teresa Day, Jason Walter Stroud, and Stephanie Nicole Stroud and her grandchildren the joys of her life: Savannah, Jacob, Dylan, Gage, Riley, Gracie and Tristan.
Rosie was an avid reader and very much engaged in life during her courageous fight with cancer since 1997! She loved to cook and hold family dinners especially during Christmas and Easter. She loved the Easter liturgy! We will all miss her wonderful turkey, ham and fixings. She loved gardening and proved you can do it from a wheelchair!
She was a compassionate lady and rescued many a dog, cat, chicken or parrot. She was an experienced horsewoman and rescued horses and ponies. Her legendary dog Alabama was with her throughout her fight with cancer until recently always by her side. During a vacation celebrating her first remission of cancer, she rescued her beloved pup out of a ditch south of Selma, Alabama.
She took great joy in the Lord, life and her family and she will be sorely missed. A memorial mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 5333 East Washington Street (Irvington), Indianapolis, Indiana May 25, 2013 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held at 9:30 AM in the church with the Rosary before mass.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to Our Lady of Lourdes Church for the memorial mass. Rosie also wanted the rescue organizations remembered that assisted her in finding homes for her beloved pets and rescues during her last illness: Indiana Horse Rescue, Southside Animal Shelter (Indianapolis), Cats' Haven (Indianapolis), Indy Feral, (Indianapolis), LOve Moore Rescue, Inc, Dawn Moore, (Greensburg), One Paw at a Time, Beth Topie (Mooresville).
The family also wants to thank the many friends and family members for their concern and prayers for Rosie. The family is also thankful for the outstanding doctors and nursing staff of St Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis especially the sixth floor and the second floor ICU. Your kindnesses, compassion and care for Rosie were very much appreciated by family and friends. We will never be able to eat an orange pop sickle and not thinking of you! We would also like to thank Father John Ghike Nwanze, Chaplain at St Vincent Hospital for bringing the sacraments to Rosie and your smile, kindness and sage advice and thank you Father Dant, pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes for your kindness, understanding and for the memorial mass.

She is Gone
You can shed tears that she is gone
Or you can smile because she has lived
You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left
Your heart can be empty because you can't see her
Or you can be full of the love that you shared
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday
You can remember her and only that she is gone
Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on
You can cry and close your mind,
be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what she would want:
smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
