Josephine Myrtle Hayes

"Josie" was born to George and Alma (Potvin) Hammer in Edgewater, Colorado on Oct. 8, 1922. She was the youngest of six children and spent much of her youth in Eagle County where her family operated a dairy. Following graduation from the Minturn School in 1941, she married a tradesman, Harvey Hayes of Florissant. The couple soon relocated near San Francisco where Harvey served in the U.S. Coast Guard. They returned to Colorado after the war, eventually building a home on an acreage near Golden. She pursued a career as an independent real estate broker (Jo Hayes Realty) specializing in the sale of rural properties. Harvey continued working both as a carpenter and iron-worker. He died in a construction accident in 1966. Josie married Robert Angell in April of 1973; he died in October of 2009.
Josephine passed away at home on Friday, Feb. 24th surrounded by her family, dear friends Juli Page and Kathi Renslow, and care-givers Kelly and Sheila. She is survived by a son Daniel Hayes, daughter Janice (Henry) Nordsiek, step-son Bob (Dorothy) Angell, grandchildren Sydney Page-Hayes, Hansen and Kirk Nordsiek, Joe, David, Robin, and Sarah Angell, brother Richard Hammer, and sisters-in-law Gladys (Hayes) Mumford and Okla (Hayes) Heinze.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Olinger Woods Chapel, 1100 Washington Avenue, Golden, Colorado. Visitation is at 9:30am with funeral services beginning at 10:00am. Burial at Golden Cemetery will immediately follow the services.
