Met and married Ray when both attending college at West Chester State Teachers College in Pennsylvania. Was majoring in history. The family moved to Portland Oregon in 1946 after the war. Then Kirkland, Washington in 1948 so Ray could attend the UofW. Worked at the Olympic Hotel in Seattle as a waitress for 25 years. Was originally named Caroline Virginia, after aunt Bennett, but her father changed it to Helen Virginia before her mother died. Was a great knitter.
