Robert Russell (Bob) Curtis, 87, a lifelong resident of Whitman County, passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at his home in Colfax.

Bob was born Dec. 19, 1924, in Colfax to Ed and Ruth Curtis.

He graduated from Garfield High School in 1942. Bob attended Washington State College (University), where he graduated with a communications degree in 1947. His favorite pastime was golfing and he was a lifetime member of the Colfax Golf and Country Club.

Although his first love was the family farm and cattle ranch in Garfield, Bob was also the football and basketball radio announcer for the University of Idaho Vandals for 51 years, retiring in 2004, where he created his legacy as the 'Voice of the Vandals. Bob called 540 consecutive Vandal football games and hundreds of basketball games during a 50-year span. He was the Idaho Sportscaster of the Year 33 times, and is a member of the Vandal Athletics Hall of Fame, North Idaho Hall of Fame and Inland Empire Hall of Fame.

In 2008, Bob was the recipient of the National Football Foundation Chris Schenkel Award. He married his wife of 37 years, Lynn, on Sept. 18, 1975.
