RICHARD J. LONG, 86, of Fort Wayne, left this world Thursday, July 1, 2010, at Parkview Hospital. A lifelong resident of Fort Wayne, he was born on Oct. 11, 1923, on the family farmstead of Edith and Paul Long on Maysville Road. As a young man of 19 years he, served in the U.S. Army 62nd General Hospital Medical Division during World War II.Throughout his life, he was dedicated to serving his church and community as a living example of the teachings of Christ and the Catholic church. He was a member of the Legion of Mary for 61 years-Spanish Apostolate; past treasurer of the Single Catholic Adult Club; and was a Blue Army member. He was employed as an Office Clerk at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Rectory for 50 years where he also served as a Boy Scout Troop leader. He is survived by 10 nieces and nephews; 30 great nieces and great nephews; and 15 great-great nieces and great-great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Edith Long; brothers, Robert and Edward; and sisters, Maryann Oswald and Jennie Marie Huber. Mass of Christian Burial is 12:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Jude Catholic Church, E. State at Randallia, with calling half hour prior. Calling also from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Avenue, with Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Burial in Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity.
