According to a newspaper article published on 14 Jun 1907 in The Chillicothe Tribune-Journal after the death of Mary Ellis Wilson it is learned that she was the adopted daughter of Dr. John H. Ellis and his wife Sarah E. Dyer. It was stated that her maiden name was Rogers. After the death of his wife he went with Mary and her husband to Deadwood where he died. At his request, the body of his wife was removed from the Catholic cemetery in Chillicothe to Deadwood. They were married in Callaway County, Missouri on 29 Feb 1844 and had no children of their own.
