AIKEN, S.C.- Thomas Edwin Carey, Sr., 76, of Trolley Line Rd., Aiken, died Wednesday, May 5, 2004 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 8, at Charles Wesley United Methodist Church. Rev. M. Eugene Mullikin will officiate. Interment will follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens. Born in Barnett, Ga., to the late Joseph and Myra Ledbetter Carey, Mr. Carey moved to Aiken in 1949. He was an Operations Manager for E. I. DuPont at the Savannah River Plant. He was a Charter Member of Charles Wesley United Methodist Church, where he was Chairman of the Administrative Board, Past Sunday School Teacher, Past Sunday School Superintendant, Past choir member and former Chairman of Alcoholics Anonymous. He also served in the U.S. Navy during WW II. Survivors include his wife, Martha Wills Russell Carey; two daughters and their husbands, Jennifer Carey and Steve Baxley, Barnwell, S.C., Claire Carey and Rudy Brooks, North Aug usta, S.C.; a son and his wife, Thomas E. and Janie Carey, Jr.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mildred Brown, Washington, Ga., Elizabeth Jones, Norfolk, Va., Grace Ferguson, Washington, Ga., Nell Adcock, Dunwoody, Ga., Catherine Flocker, Washington, Ga. and a brother, Joseph Carey, Lexington, Ga. Memorials may be directed to the Aiken Chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous, 123 Linden St., Aiken, S.C. 29801.
