Jacob Baerns was born in Enders, Russia, a Volgadeutsch village (a German-Russian village along the Volga). He married Marie Elisabeth Fehler from Mannheim, Russia. He emigated to the U.S. in early 1907 and his wife and three surviving children emigrated in late 1907. He was a shoemaker and lived in US in western suburbs of Chicago. He died in a relative's home in Port Huron, Michigan. He had three more children born in the USA. He had two brother who followed him into the USA, Christian (Christ) Baerns and Philip Baerns.
